How many digits are your passwords? I know that myspace and the myspace client ignore any characters after 10.

This has been posted to Bugzilla for Astra. If you are currently testing Astra, you should follow the instructions in your email, find the bug on Bugzilla, and contribute. From what I have tested it looks like MySpace may be blocking Astra, but that is NOT fact, just a guess after I did a lot of testing.

I just set up myspace today, and can't get the myspace plug-in to connect.

Anyone had issues connecting recently?

I have never been able to login. I never tried the native client because I do not want to have to install another client, that really is why I use Trillian. :D
For those who have logged in, does it automatically download your Friend list and use the same one as displayed on your myspace? If someone without the chat client is on, will it allow you to send them an IM through the client and it be recieved by the web interface?
McBean
01 Feb 2007, 02:03 PM
Yeah - so I downloaded the actual client and was able to log on without an issue. When I try to access MySpace with Astra, it says the password is invalid...
WTF???
I've reopened bug 840 with this situation. Don't know what the deal is.

B: Be as specific as possible. Which username do you use? Does your MySpace name display differently than your actual username? Etc.
C: It's only affecting a certain groups of people, now they just need to figure out the common denominator between those folks.

I got this to work under build 32. I had to ignore any upper case characters in my password and enter everything in lower case characters plus any other characters.
*poof* Tom appeared in my Contact List.
Go figure.
But I give my word that the thick client of MySpace requires me to use capital letters for my account.

To figure out the user id or friend name of a person on MySpace, look at their URL:
What is my friend's MySpace Username?
On your friend's profile page, look for a section called "MySpace URL" underneath their main picture, or look in the page title at the top of the browser window. For example, the Username for http://www.myspace.com/tom is tom.
If the name isn't there, you should be able to use the ID number, but I'm not certain.

Smooth,
Try setting up the account like this:
ID: Smooth@myspace.com (The e-mail account you authenticate with normally on the site)
PW: p@s$w0rd
Even if your password is P@s$w0RD, put it all in lower case text, I had to do this with the plug in for it to work succesfully. Don't ask... I couldn't say why it worked, but that resolved my issues.
And you'll know you get connected to MySpace for the first time because "Tom" will get added to your Contact List by default.

Do you guys have a router or firewall and that port isn't open in one or the other?(1863)
Some ISPs block port ranges. My ISP blocks anything below 1024, so I am unable to use applications that use those ports, such as web servers or FTP servers ETC. I cannot even use port forwarding because the traffic never gets to me.

I know this will probably get flamed, but people may want to consider installing the MySpace client jsut for the sake of logging in on the proprietary client ONCE - just so they know what credential and password works to get them on the service.
Once you know that works, try using the same settings in Astra's MySpace plug-in to see if it works.
This primarily confirms that you can connect to MySpace, and that it's not a MySpace issue, but an Astra Issue. Secondly, you know with certainty what credentials were used to make it work.
Don't try it from work for the first time. Make sure you're at home or on some fairly direct Internet access where there's not going to be a ton of firewall, proxy or port limitations on traffic.
Remove as much guesswork as possible with regards to issues.

Nah that's good advice. If MySpace goes down you can log in with the actual client and see that it is a plugin problem. I can log in to MySpace IM using either my user name or email, with Astra I had to switch from my user name to my full email address after build 30 I think it was (we are on 32)..on a suggestion from Tourbi I actually added myself....

The one bug I believe Scott fixed was with the password handling. Apparently, MySpace puts all passwords into lowercase as a default function.
Ex: To log into MyS web site or IM Client my password was written P@SsworD
To log into MyS IM via Astra I had to manually enter p@ssword as my password
My ID credential was always lowercase and lacked unique characters.
Ex: me@domain.net
Don't know if that sheds any light your way or not.

No, the account doesn't have any uppercase letters, nor does the password.
I'm pretty sure the reason it's not working is because of the special character.
I've seen someone else have a problem logging in because they had a "+" in their email that they used for the login (a gmail login, like mine), so I'm pretty sure that the reason mine won't log in is because it has a period on it.
Hey it's alpha, I'll just wait around for a fix. Hopefully it'll come before I ship out. hehe

Is your account pretty straight forward, or does it have some special characters in it? Just curious to see where it fits with the ongoing coversations here.
Seems like the case sensitivity of the passwords has been resolved (my assumption), but that accounts with special characters (!@.+*) and so on are still having access issues.

Since the myspace protocol is changing so often my guess is that it became a hassle to keep the plugin up to date as small things were changed that really had no effect but the old one no longer worked. So they are probably waiting until it calms down a bit.

It was working, and worked fine...but MyspaceIM makes changes constantly and the Trillian Protocol is always out of date. As Astra goes more towards final, CS will think of something to make it work - but it won't work not because of CS, but because of Myspace.

I went searching around about 3rd party MyspaceIM protocol information and came up with some information about another program with a working MyspaceIM plugin, it's Miranda IM, it has a beta version of a plugin and is updated alot, and works wonders, but its still has only basic features, i recommend checking it out if ya cant live without the MyspaceIM plugin for Trillian.
the link to the plugin for miranda...

[18:14] *** MySpace is no longer accepting logins from this version of the plugin. Please upgrade to the latest MySpace IM plugin and try again.
[18:14] *** Disconnected.
This is what I'm getting. Any kind of fix or workaround?
Much appreciated.
