Welcome to Trillian. :) Thank you for your interest in skinning for Trillian.
Before you start creating your skinning, and especially if you are NOT creating a skin from zero, please read the following article.
What are Rips?
As constructing a Trillian skin is an intricate task, many skinners choose to edit other people's creation to achieve what they want. However, they may not notice that the skins are the results of weeks or even months of making graphics and creating codes.
Ripping happens everywhere: from copying music to copying artwork. With the advent of computers, ripping has become an ever more common situation. These artists, most of which are not getting paid and are working for their hobbies, have had their work repeatedly raped over and over again. Ripping is discouraging for those who innovate.
A rip is:
- Taking a skin or parts of a skin and posting it on a website or public forum without the original author’s permission.
- Taking a skin or parts of a skin and making modifications to it, in any form, and posting it on to a website or public forum without the original author’s permission.
Rip Reporting
We do not tolerate "rips”: taking another artists work and posting it as your own. Ripping is plagiarism and theft against your peers. If a skinner feels that they have been ripped, or is aware that another skin has been ripped, please notify staff with the following information:
a) Link to the original work
b) Link to the "ripped” work
c) Whether this is a constant problem with the ripper
d) Name of the ripper
Once a skin is considered as a rip, the skin will be removed.
Make Sure You Got All the Permissions before Modifying!
Therefore, be sure that you ask for the permission of the skin authors, before you attempt to modify the skin and release your modified version. Otherwise, you will be violating federal and international copyright law. (or something like that) :(
Sorry for the inconvience! ;) One one hand, we have ensure the freedom of creativity. On the other hand, we also have to protect the rights and the work of our skinners.
Thank you for your kind attention. :)
