View Full Version : [FOR SUBMISSION] Sorting setting remembered but not applied on startup

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
======================
I have no folders; all of my contacts are in the root. I specify the contact list sorting as By Status, and that setting is remembered through startups, but when Astra loads, that sorting isn't actually applied. I have to specifically tell Astra to sort By Status after every startup before it sorts and is fine for the rest of the time Astra is up.

This isn't a new bug that showed up in 56--as far as I know, it's always been a bug in Astra.

EXPECTED RESULT
======================
My sorting preference should not only be remembered but actually applied every startup.

ACTUAL RESULT
======================
My sorting preference is remembered but not applied every startup.

REPRODUCIBLE
======================
Was the bug reproducible: Yes

Since I don't want to log bugs from older builds, does this still happen with build 57?

Yes, this problem persists in build 57.

Thanks.

I was looking for this. This is STILL a problem and I cannot stand it. I sort contacts to MY liking, not by status or anything, and for trillian to change the sort everytime it starts is very annoying, in fact it is so annoying that I dont even use trillian and will not until it gets fixed. Maybe they think it is not an important issue or perhaps they cannot figure it out. Either way it would be nice to see it get fixed soon. It has been a problem for as long as I've known.

Has this ever been fixed? Im getting annoyed with trillian for not fixing this easy bug but everything else gets added or fixed. They do not make me feel very confident in Trillian or their future. no replies from them.

mandude, the alpha is not for fixing bugs, beta is ... so anything that gets fixed in alpha is likely because they needed to fix it.

You are simply just not able to get mad over this, it is how alpha testing works.

Then what is the point of this forum? Is not the point of this forum to report BUGS and to FIX them? Am I reading something wrong? I see random fixes all the time for alphas.

They will be fixed... in beta.

The fixes they made are necessary. And I think there's another reason they fix certain bugs... They often rewrites some pieces of code and when they ran into the code where there's bug they clean it up... But they don't search for this code because of submitted bugs just because of adding or repairing features.

Yes, the point of the forum is for you to report bugs and them to fix them. But it doesn't say "bugs reported in alpha will be fixed in alpha". Beta is the bug fixing cycle. But obviously they want them reported as fast as we find them.

mandude, the alpha is not for fixing bugs,

Diamond, quit saying this. It's nonsense. I don't know who put this idea in your head, but it's complete crap. Alpha versions are as much about bug fixes as adding new features.

Hence there is a forum called "Astra Bugs" and the Bugzilla and the Bug Fixes Only Builds.

The main purpose of the alpha cycle is to add the features. Sure they will fix bugs but there is no promise that all bugs will get fixed in the alpha cycle.

They have said this themselves before. Thanks for trying to flame me though. :)

EDIT: Here is a statement from CS themselves on July 5th, 2007 telling you the point of alpha is to add features.

The point of the alpha phase is to ensure we’re adding all of the right features to make Trillian Astra your IM client of choice! Please use this time to contribute your suggestions and feedback! The product is NOT done yet and there are still plenty of features we plan on adding in the coming weeks.
