View Full Version : [FOR SUBMISSION] iPhone: "Octopus Down" message

I'm trying to connect to Astra with an iPhone, using htts://www.astra.im/iphone . After enterying my username and password, I get to a screen with a rotating progress indicator and the message "Octopus Down." The same username/password works fine on a normal web browser on astra.im, so I don't think that Octopus is, in fact, down.
Anyone else seeing this? iPhone 1.1.1 firmware, not jailbroken.

(yikes, sorry, forgot to include [FOR SUBMISSION] in title)

I've been experiencing the same thing.

This has been widely reported. The new browser broke something and they haven't had a chance to fix it yet.

I'm seeing this as well. 1.1.1, not jailbroken.
Looking forward to a fix so that we can start testing...

Is this ever going to be commented on officially? it's kindof disingenuous to still be linking to the iPhone version on the main page when it doesn't work.
I want to be able to use this and not meebo. :(

I have been trying to use the iPhone version of astra for several days now and it just says octopus down and never connects. Is this a known issue or just something going on with my phone? Thanks

It's a known issue. An update broke it and it has been down for several weeks. :) Make sure you try search.

Ok thanks. Hopefully when the iPhone SDK comes out they will be able to port a version of the OSX Trillian over to the iPhone natively.

Have you voted for Bug 3788 (http://bugs.ceruleanstudios.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3788) yet?

You don't have to vote for bugs. They will fix them all. The voting is for feature request entries.

This is true, but with less than a handful of votes it doesn't come across as an important bug to fix.
Whenever I think about the iPhone users asking for something I'm reminded of this Fake Steve blog post (http://fakesteve.blogspot.com/2007/09/this-comes-with-100-rebate.html). :)

Votes aren't for bug fixes, they are for features. All "bugs" will be fixed in time.

You seem sure that this bug will be fixed. What if the problem is too much hassle to spend developer time on? It's not as though Astra can't be released without an iPhone client. Maybe the whole iPhone thing is on hold until the SDK is out, and then they will review whether it's worth doing at all.
It seems like an iPhone client was a quick and easy way to get good PR. It was just a reformat of the existing web front end. Then Apple messed things about and it's become an effort to fix it. Effort that could go elsewhere, like a windows mobile client.
I think the iPhone client has already been downgraded from bug to feature - so votes are quite appropriate, no.

Do you know what the problem is? For all we know it's an issue that can't be fixed on CS's end and requires a browser fix from Apple.

JiveTalk works fine with the existing Apple software so a solution is possible. I'm sure that Astra would look and work better, but CS don't need anything from Apple.
