In every other windows OS there has been a diffrent kind of notification system to show you that someone is typing by adding a "*" next to the name down on the system bar....windows 7 doesn't have a system that this works on and you know what? i really do miss this....dunno why since i'w only seen this a an "i guess that can be good sometimes" feature but i really really do miss it. is it even possible to fix this with some kind of...i dunno... flashing icon of some kind? or anyhting :(
The tough thing with this is that the whole trillian icon would be given the 'typing' state icon. Do you think that would be ok? Since the taskbar entries are related to the whole application?

I thought if you changed the taskbar layout to "not group" the tabs, it showed it correctly. I forget if that's the exact terminology in the options window. I'm at work and unfortunately cannot check, but DiamondNRG showed me how to do that a few days ago.

Grouping eliminates some of the potential for things like this to show through. Just turn the silly grouping off and it works fine.
"Group when full" makes sense...but grouping while having blank taskbar to stare at is stupid and Microsoft picked the wrong default mode and they know it.
