This is a problem ive had on multiple systems with trillian astra even now on build 115. I say its a problem on vista because I tried it on a XP system and it worked just fine!!
Any who, when applying a skin at anytime(any skin that did not come with trillian) the chat windows open at the time go crazy. The following things happen with them(different results everytime):
- The window resizes itself so huge it goes off the screen making it hard to close it.
- The window has no top bar(no close button etc)
- If tabbed together the window shows no tabs .
Ill try and see what else happens when i do this. The only way to fix it for now is to do the following:
-Restart trillian
-Set the chat windows to be the same size as they were the last time opened(After you resize it from the bug listed above)
IM GOING TO GET SCREENSHOTS OF IT IF I CAN

I haven't had problems that dramatic, but I have definitely noticed that windows tend to be significantly resized when applying different skins. For me, this usually happens to the contacts list. Skins in general are a bit touchy, independently-generated add-ons as they are.
I'm curious, do your individual skins retain their window size settings? In other words, if you switch from Skin A to Skin B, then back to Skin A, are the Skin A windows the same size you left them?

Skins have different minimum widths and heights, so when you change skins it may HAVE to change size, and it won't change back unless it has to.

I am running Windows Vista here and haven't had any problems thus far except for known bugs. Have you updated your video drivers? Are you using any third party Astra modifications?

I've got similar problems... When changing between Trillian Cobalt and Cordonata, when opening the second chat window in Cobalt skin, Minimal. Few screenshots...

Trillian Astra v4.0 build 115, Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, SP2.

So I can always reproduce the issue on the screenshot #2:
- using Minimal Cobalt skin (but also others), tabs for the chat window
- open first chat window (online or offline contact)
- open another chat window (offline contact)
= result is at on the screenshot #2, missing title bar
- now change the skin
= title bar is displayed correctly now
This is really annoying, could anyone reproduce it?
Edit: Another screenshot, this time using "Cobalt - Original 4.0" skin. :(

Sorry for the late reply!

When I switch back to one that came with trillian the windows stay the same when switching from a custom one to another the error repeats itself. Since beta 116 I have not had many problems with it which is weird but it still happens every so often!
Skins have different minimum widths and heights, so when you change skins it may HAVE to change size, and it won't change back unless it has to.
I understand this but im sure not all the custom skins made for astra make it so the chat window your currently in resizes to fit the whole screen.

Ive had this problem on several different computers not just the one im running now. I constantly update my video drivers and I am not using any 3rd party mods except the Aspell Checker

I have tried to reproduce everything here, and simply cannot. However, more than one person is experiencing these issues, so I guess that doesn't mean a whole lot.
What it does mean is that there is a common denominator between all of the folks having these issues, and we should pinpoint that...

I can tell you on all my computers tested I have an ATI card so maybe its a ATI problem. I have vista x64 and x86 computers with service pack 2 installed on them I havent tried it on one with sp1. So I dunno...

Anyone else have an ATI graphics card? All of mine are nVidia. Has this been submitted to Bugzilla?

nVidia here, so it's not an ATI issue - and still the same with build 116 and 117 (see above for more).
Another related issue with tooltip:

That is already reported that it fails to calculate the top of the screen properly.

OK, sorry.
No need to be sorry, I was simply letting you know someone entered it as its not really going to get noticed just being mentioned in the middle of a thread about another topic :)

OK, but what about the other bugs above, especially the tabs issue - and another one - crash on exit (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/forums/showpost.php?p=785936&postcount=4)? These bugs are critical for me and this is the final release!? :(

It is final but they will continue to release builds but not so often as they did because they need to focus on a upcoming 4.1 version. So if this is a bug it will be fixed - don't worry. It's only a matter of time.

Thanks for the info.
Hint for the users using tabs, to switch between tabs you can use these keyboard shortcuts:
Ctrl+Tab / Shift+Ctrl+Tab - next / previous tab
Ctrl+PageDown / Ctrl+PageUp - next / previous tab
Ctrl+W - close current tab

For me, the size of each skin seems to map proportionately to every other skin, but they're not the same size. For example, if I make the contact list fill the right side of my screen top to bottom in Inspirat Astra, then switch to Cordonata, it shrinks significantly on both the horizontal and vertical axis. If I go back to Inspirat Astra, it fills the screen again. If I go back to Cordonata again and resize it to fill the screen, then switch yet again to Inspirat Astra, it grows on both axes to the extent a significant portion is offscreen.
I only have four skins, but as far as I can tell, the "largest" is Inspirat Astra and Cobalt (which are, it turns out, identical in size when switching), followed closely by Bleach, followed by Cordonata.
I have a suspicion that at least some of the difference may be due to the relatively large alpha-blending area of Cordonata, but the difference is identical with a-b on or off, and even considering the a-b, the difference doesn't seem fully accounted for. In any case, I consider the edge of the window to be the part that "snaps" against other windows or the edge of the screen, and that doesn't include the a-b portion.
This only seems to affect my contact list, not message windows. Also, for the record, I have an nVidia GeForce Go 7600 graphics card.

But those skins have different settings for what they allow as minimum heights and widths which probably is the majority of the reason it changes.

Why would they shrink due to minimum heights and widths? Anyway, I can get the biggest of them to stay smaller, but that's not really the point. They're not small because they can't be resized bigger or big because they can't be resized smaller, or because they won't stay that size if reloaded, they're big or small because... well, that's what I'm trying to figure out. It's a very odd thing. I can't understand why it would be set up that way deliberately, but it may not be a bug in the strict sense of the word, either. Either way, I don't think it makes sense for it to exhibit the behavior that it does.

Weird one here:
When running UVNC, the Trillian chat window is completely invisible if the Cordonata skin is applied. Every other window shows up fine, including right-clicking on the Trillian icon and going to preferences. If I change the skin to Cobalt, I can see the chat window again. Everything is normal if I'm sitting in front of the computer w/Cordonata applied.
Vista Home Premium x64, UVNC.

I found a workaround to fix the "tabs" issue! Enable the option "Show tab even when only one window exists" (in Message windows section), tabs are displaying correctly from now on - in both modes - original and minimal and in the skins which don't support interfaces, tested with several skins. I tried to disable that option and the bug is back, then enabled and the bug is gone! Hope it will help to fix this bug.
