How do I change the background color of a particular skin? For example, the skin I'm currently using has black text on a white background. I'd like to change the white background to something slightly darker. White is kind of hard on the eyes after staring at it for a few hours.

Can I edit one of the ext or md files? Or would I need to use an image editor?

Thanks,
Grey

I can see now why nobody can answer this. I've tried editing the rgb values in just about every file that had a value matching the background color. Nothing I've tried changed the background color at all.

All I'm looking for here is a skin with a dark-colored background, but all the the dark skins available use black. And of course it's impossible to read black text on a black background.

Open the code files (should be a prefs type file) with notepad and search for the control called display and the control called edit.

Open the colors.ini file and change text colours there.

If this was posted in the skinning forum first, it may not have been lost with all all the AOL threads that got posted recently.

Download and use a dark skin.

Go to preferences --> windows --> display, and uncheck "Show Text Formatting"

That will make the text whatever is the default in the skin (no more black on black). And if the default color doesn't fit your needs, it's usually easy to find in colors.ini

I believe the black on black thing is fixed. You shouldn't have to uncheck 'show text formatting' now.

UNLESS the person is purposely sending you black text, then you will have to. :(

yep, that was the case with me, the default color would work fine, but if they intentionally sent a dark text, I'd have to highlight to read it. I just unchecked that, I like the default colors better anyway.

Solarian is a dark skin which uses 25% gray as the message background.
