I tried to post in the iPhone section, however it seems new accounts don[t have those privileges.

Trillian review

Features:
+Chat tabs, switching chats is as simple as swiping or clicking on the display picture
+Chat Delivery report, bubble changes color when the message has been delivered
+Ability to set display picture (it actually shows to others)

-Session sometimes doesn't autoresume when starting the app.
-Session timeout limited to 24hr
-Facebook chat support missing
-Sign off closes all open chats, session resume should apply to sign off/sign ons
-No landscape mode
-Per service display name preferred. Right now the display name/picture is applied across all services.
-I was logged off at midnight (00:00) when I have it set to log me off every 24hrs, random event or per design?
-Push is very limited. You only get a notification once until you open the application. Badge gets updated regardless.
This should have some sort of time limit. I tried sending one message which delivered a notification within 10 seconds, however, 10 minutes later I sent another message and got no notification, 8 hours later, new message and no notification.
-Favorite tab should have an add (+) button, right now you need to go into contact details and 'add to favorites'

UI:
The UI is pretty standard, complies with most of the iPhone UI
-(Inconsistency)The emerging "More" menu should have the "Cancel" button at the bottom
-(Display bug)The online status sometimes switches to offline, however accounts are still logged in. Clicking on "Online" from the options switches the button back to 'Online' without actually doing anything
-(Inconsistency)Adding an account> When selecting the service (AIM, MSN, Gtalk, etc) it should go back to the previous screen after selection is made. Right now it sits at the service selection screen until you press the back arrow.
-Offline contacts are unavailable, unless you reach them through search/favorites. This should have a toggle and/or collapsible user group.
-When typing and autocorrect is enabled, the last word when hitting "send" ignores autocorrect

Chat/Service specific:
-Busy/DND status missing.
-Basic emoticon support missing! :) :( :D :P ;) etc...
-(MSN)Group management is ackward, you are required to add a new group and delete the old one instead of allowing simple switch from the existing group.
-Display pictures should be downloaded when the user is online, and not when we initiate chat. Interface looks empty without display pictures (toggable setting to reduce bandwidth usage?)

Very good feedback. :)

I've had many crashes yesterday, if my iPhone is changing mobile cell network from 3G to E mode often. Another crash I get, if I tap longer on a chat bubble or background - the App closed immediatly and once I restart Trillian it starts a new session.

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to move this to the mobile section.

I posted this in another thread but it's relevant here as well....

The reason for the limitations on posting is to try and knock down the spam. Spam bots will register with the forums and immediately post new threads about shoes, websites, diplomas, or the latest Paris Hilton video. To counter that we set the limit so that you couldn't register with the forums and immediately blanket them with new threads.

I have removed that restriction from the new forum section so give it a try and let me know if it's still a problem.

Things missing and/or things that would be nice to have:

Ability to change the sounds made by Trillian. The alert sound, for example, is very quiet and I can't hear it if my phone is more than a few feet from me.

Ability to delete contacts.

Rearrange the order of groups in the Buddy List. I don't know where it got the ordering from, but it's non-optimal for how I view my contacts, and I can't change it.

No way to add contacts into a group on the iPhone. I don't use Trillian on my home computer so if the functionality is there I can't take advantage of it.

Ability to make meta-contacts. I have several contacts with multiple different chat accounts. Right now if someone has 4 different chat accounts, I see 4 different entries in the contact list, and have no way to merge them together into a single meta contact.

Linking of contacts to Address Book entries.

Emoticons. I'm flabergasted that a chat application released in 2009 has no ability to send emoticons, nor any emoticon icons that display when one is received. Really?

Protocol specific emoticons.

Consistent feedback on events. I have had to create the same chat login information 3 or 4 times before it appears to "take". However, if I create the login once, then close the app and relaunch it, it appears.

This applies to several places throughout the app where information is requested, for example updating/adding contact nicknames.

Ability to set my status on a per-protocol basis. Maybe I want a different status on Yahoo! than I want on AIM or MSN. This includes the ability to be Offline on one or more accounts without having to sign off from all of them.

Ability to have multiple saved custom statuses.

Ability to have different icons and nicknames for each different protocol.

Ability to show offline contacts. Several of my contacts sign in as invisible, and therefore they never show up in my contact list.

Ability to flag contacts as "always show" so they appear in my list as normal even if they are signed off and/or invisible.

Ability to send alerts if specified contacts sign on, so I always know if Contact A is online.

If I already have specified a personal icon for a protocol somewhere else, don't delete it when I launch Trillian on my iPhone.

Multi-line typing window. If I type a long sentence, it just keeps scrolling the single-line input field to the left, so I cannot see what I've typed already in case I want to edit or make corrections to it. The input window should auto-scale and word-wrap as I type more.

Also the ability to send chats as an email would be great. Sometimes I want to save a chat.

These two are already possible, although the status one is not straightforward

Click "Online"
Manage Connections
Click the account you want to disconnect
Switch "Connected" to off

To delete a contact go to the contact info, edit, and delete contact.

Rearrange the order of groups in the Buddy List. I don't know where it got the ordering from, but it's non-optimal for how I view my contacts, and I can't change it.

The first one seems to be random, I have "Es" as my first group, "Am" next, "Favorites" 3rd and so on. Favorites should be first.

Contact groups is possible but it takes a bit of work, like I explained in my first post.

Ability to have multiple saved custom statuses.

Ability to have different icons and nicknames

These two would be great. Right now it saves one display picture as "current avatar," keeping a list of a couple more, or maybe a submenu with "Old avatars" would be great, since we have to zoom and crop to select a new one.

another basic feature missing...
Webview!
if someone sends you a link it opens safari, it should open an embedded browser since we don't have multitasking. Everything seems to add webview (IMs, twitter clients, facebook, etc...) so I figure it shouldn't extremely hard to include.

I've been having the same issue with mine. It's crashing very frequently :(

If the app is crashing you can mail the crash logs to the developer of the app

Sync your phone with iTunes.

On Mac OS X they are located in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice.

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/<DEVICE_NAME>

Windows Vista: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DEVICE_NAME>

Actually, if the app crashes, the logs get auto-submitted to Apple on your next sync. Apple automatically sorts the logs and puts them into the appropriate developer's iTunes Connect account for them to pick up. So you don't need to do /anything/; any crash log automatically has already been sent our way. Like magic!

However, they only dump the logs on the devs every two weeks or so, so I don't (yet) have the logs to go through from any automatic crash log submissions.

On the crash... there's a crash I've seen on 3G/EDGE switching, if that happens repeatedly and extremely rapidly in a short period of time. Unfortunately, the crash in question happens down in the iPhone's system frameworks, rather than Trillian's own code. If I turn off connectivity notifications, that crash doesn't seem to happen... but then also I lose all connectivity notifications the iPhone can optionally generate, and with them the ability to detect the WiFi-lost situation, and trigger an automatic heal of the session as soon as 3G or EDGE comes up. :(

Personally, I'm not a fan of the "More" button. I think it should be standardized with the text message interface where the "More" button is the "Send" button. I don't know how many times I hit the "More" button trying to send a message and get the pop-up which I quickly hit "End Conversation" because that's typically where the Cancel button is located.

I don't have a good place to put the more button, then, however. Unfortunately, in testing, the double-tap-on-tab was not intuitive to most people if that was the /only/ place to put it (people never found how to send images, then), and I just don't have many other places I /can/ put the more button.

I'll keep looking into possibilities, though.

(I do concede that the Cancel button should be on the bottom, though, and will probably move that for next build.)

What about placing a small icon on the left side of the text entry bar where you normally see the small MMS/photo icon when you're sending a text message? You could make that trigger the pop-up (although a slide-up type menu would be awesome!). ;)
