WLM detecting Trillian for iPhone as a mobile device and preventing users to message me?
Hello,
one of my WLM contacts informed me over ICQ that they can't message me on WLM anymore while I'm logged in with Trillian for iPhone.
I don't know how this has happened since it seems to work properly for other contacts to send me messages, however they told me that they now see a mobile phone inside my WLM avatar instead of that grey head default image and they got a message from WLM instructing them to "buy mobile messages first" before contacting me. For more details see the screenshot attached in this message they took.
I'm a bit confused about that. First of all I don't want everyone to know wether I'm online from my iPhone or from my desktop by having different icons, so is there any way to change that so WLM doesn't see me as a phone? And does somebody know what that weird WLM thing on the message in the screenshot is?
I've tested it for myself afterwards by asking a friend to open his original WLM client in front of me while I was logging in with my iPhone. He also got that changed mobile icon but he still was able to message me in a normal way however. The person that told me that they can't contact me anymore currently is sitting in Finland while the friend I had asked and myself are located in Germany, don't know if that could make a difference.
The contact has to use instant messaging and not to try to send you a SMS to your mobile phone! Right click on a contact - default is Send SMS - choose Send instant offline message. I don't know the exact english describtions on the menu.
Oh, so that option appears for mobile devices automatically then? Is it possible to hide completely that I am online from a mobile phone? So that couldn't happen and others wouldn't know where I am, that's a bit nasty in my opinion.
