Skin that uses windows color scheme
So, I searched the forum, and found posts where someone says they think they heard of someone doing something like this. But couldn't seem to find anything definate on the subject. So, is there a skin that just uses the whatever colors you have windows set to use? Or maybe even is so fabulous as to use the neat looking title bars and buttons and such in WinXP? Or maybe a prog that reads an .msstyles file and converts it to a Trillian Skin? And, if none of these things exist, is anyone working on them? Cos, it seemed like there were a good number of requests for a skin that just used one's windows color scheme, and, as an XP user, if it also used the title bars and buttons and things, that'd be FABULOUS. I'd do these things myself, but the extent of my skinning ability is to change colors of bitmaps in already made skins, so that I can have the purple skins I want. And it doesn't always work properly for me. So, hopefully, someone else will make a skin like this. It seems like it wouldn't be too difficult, just make a skin that tells trillian to use the default windows colors.

Search for unskin*. I think it might be listed under that name.
Also, polls are not allowed in this forum.

I figured it out!!!1 There's an IM program named Trillion made by a company called CC. That's the only explanation!

sry, didn't realize polls weren't allowed here. Do you happen to know why not? It's not as tho it's off topic or something. Just curious. Maybe they should edit the posting form so it doesn't allow the poll option in forums that polls aren't allowed in.

polls are allowed here, don't worry.
Trillian is in no way able to pick up your windows colorscheme. Many reasons, but it just isn't.
People could always create a /stixe skin out of their colourscheme, and perhaps even create a program that looks up your settings in the registery and create a skin from that information, probably /stixe would be the easiest.
Windows ME is the closest to a normal windows colorscheme though, and it looks good too !
Maybe we'd better ask some programmer to write a program for this

hmm. that seems like a lack in the prog then, that it can't pick up your windows color scheme. Since I made the first post, I read all the "the developers want it skinned" posts, and the "without a skin, trillian would be nothing" posts. So, it seems to me that if the developers are going to consider trillian as good enough software for ppl to pay for, then they would pay attention to what ppl want, which, seems very much to be, a "unskinned" version of trillian.
If "unskinning" trillian would mean I'd have to run some program that would mod a basic skin to match my color settings and current .msstyles file each time I changed my windows scheme, I'd be happy to do that. There's the windows lite skin, and it says it just uses color tags, maybe someone could write a prog that takes one's color settings and writes them to the color tags of that skin? Wouldn't be a perfect solution, but would be a start. It's not hard to access the bitmaps in msstyles files, and one wouldn't need many, the title bar and scroll bar, minimize, maximize and close, etc, use the quicklaunch button bitmaps behind the basic medium icons. Bah. Now I wish I'd taken that programing course after all.
Thanks for the reply tho sjoerd_job_p.

that wouldn't be that hard to do actually.
If the author of it, JG I think, would be so nice to re-make it to support a settings.ini file, you could make settings for 'Font-title' and color-title, and so on ! It'd have to be a W95/WinNT style windows colour scheme though, because W95 and NT don't have those cute gradients in the titlebar ! I think that if someone really wants to, this would be possible.
*starts getting an idea for when his other skins are done, and also for his W3.11 skin *

There has been talk of the possibility of a program that reads your windowblinds theme, or grabs your system colors, or whatever, and generates a skin from it... but as far as I know, nothing has come of it, and probably won't for a long time.

Thanks for all the replies.
sjoerd_job_p, glad I could help inspire an idea, and I apologize, cos I know quite well that ideas lead to extra work.
As for the talk of the program that would do something quite like what is wanted, but nothing coming of it, bah, and whine, and complain. (all meant in the nicest, I love the prog and want to see it be the best most amazing prog it could be way)
OneBarG, no biggie on the mistake. Happens to the bestest of us.

not a bad idea.....would save a lot of "theme" work....say in MdXP2, you have the layout and the icons etc set up with all the code and then have an option to have the default theme or have it look up the windows settings and create a skin from them....that'd save ALOT of work and it'd be tight too (hope Arguile never reads that line, he hates when I say that )
