Question about Skin Previewer
I've completed the preliminary steps in creating the XML for the Venus skin buddy list. However, I'd like to confirm that I am on the right track before I continue. The attached image is a screen capture of the skin in the Skin Preview utility. Obviously, a lot of black space is displayed. Should the upper and lower areas of the skin repeat to cover up the black space in the utility or does that come later? The image I'm working with is a 180x180 image.

NOTE: (The same can be said for the left and right regions)

Your sides and top and bottom should repeat yes, just like your buddylist does.

Check your

Upper, Lower, Left and Right code again

Thanks Marc. I fixed it. As an aside, you may want to add that the previewed skin should look like a picture frame to the tutorial. Just a suggestion to help new skinners like myself.

If ppl hunt in the tutorial they'll find some valueable references in the old tutorial which is linked:

Basic Locations of Windows (In this example disregard the layout for the drawer, that's how it used to be)

Hints & Tips (In this example disregard tip 2 and tip 3, they were for the old 0.635 skinning way)

With tip 1, you now have the ability to do resizeable NickList and Editbox, and so, you'd have three frames, however, the picture just indicates basically one frame, and is still good to refer to for an idea etc.

~

Yes this is an old tutorial, but you can still get good helpful info from it

Good call. My only comment is that most people will likely not use the old reference, regardless of its worth. Everything that has been discussed about skinning for v.70 is how different it is from v.635. Plus, the addition of the skin preview utility adds something not seen/used in v.635. Obviously, these aren't incentives to use an older tutorial.

At any rate, thanks for the advice. I appreciate it!

Using the old tutorial is entirely their call. I'm not going to rewrite things they can look up

Having said that, I will upload any additions ppl want to make to the new tutorial, so if someone wishes to rewrite something for the new tutorial which was covered in the old tutorial, feel free, and I'll upload it.

The links to the old tutorial are no longer valid.

Md: Do you have an updated URL?

The above links should work, refers to the old tutorial.

If you remove the "old/" should take you to the updated version.

If they don't work, I'm either offline, of there's too many browsing, having ISP problems, downloading too much and slowing you down, or you may not be able to view things on port81 which is what I have to use.

There's always the one in CS which I can't update as fast: http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/skins/tutorial/ just incase I'm offline or you can't get to the new one.
