Question What Visual Style You Usin'?
I'm not sure if this has come up recently, but we all know that deviantart.com and themexp.org has some kick butt Visual Styles for XP. So, my question is, which one is your computer sportin' now?

I am currently using "2Advanced StyleXP Theme"
Mostly because the start menu is so tiny and everything is so compact (plus cool looking)

Sorry to sound thick, but I have recently changed to XP, I have just downloaded one of the themes from deviant.

So now I have a stack of bmp's in a folder, how do I turn them into a theme.

I have been looking everywhere trying to figure where I am sposed to put them, but I have to admit defeat.

Would anybody be prepared to point me in the right direction, if so please IM me.

TIA

I would say to make sure you didn't download a theme for Windows Blinds. Make sure you download something that is a "Visual Style" for use with StyleXP from TGTSoft. They usually come with some sort of .msstyle file that contains all the style info.

I agree, two reasons IMHO:

1. Winblinds isn't compatible with Trillian
2. Winblinds uses more resources on my PC than StyleXP

Yup Style XP works great, it linked to a different download site and rather than a pile of bmp's I got the files in the format it could read.

That's one of the silliest things I've ever heard! How incredibly uneconomical... You should be using AIM and ICQ if you really think that bloatware is a good thing and/or don't care about performance.

WTF did I say Bloatware is a good thing buddy?

Get your fact straight or post nothing at all.

I said if I want a faster machine I'd buy more RAM and a better processor.

I didn't say Bloatware is a good thing.

Sheesh, saying I should be using AIM and ICQ is pretty much calling me a moron, but I think the biggest moron is someone who doesn't get their facts straight.

~

Hell, let's break down my post shall we?

"If I want a faster pc I better buy a better processor and more RAM."

"If I want a faster pc"

If I, Marcdaniel, want's a faster personal computer....

"I better buy "

I, Marcdaniel, would buy...

"a better processor and more RAM."

A better CPU with a higher Mhz speed rating than I already have, and more RAM than I already have.

Now, let us analyse this. More RAM and a Faster CPU means better PC performance.

And you say that's the silliest thing you've heard?

You don't think more RAM and a Faster CPU would speed up a PC's Performance? You're kidding right?

Yet you continue, and place me in the same class as a standard AOL user because I post that I would buy More RAM and a Better CPU?

Heaven forbid if I update my Graphics Card to something which processes graphics Faster, I might be classed as an AOL Employee?

I mean, sheesh, I can see you have a decent CPU and RAM from your sig, so you should already know that PC performance inproves.

WTF has AIM and ICQ got to do with it?

~

Oh and let's see the addition at the end of your post.

"or don't care about performance."

I don't care about performance? WTF would I have posted that I'd buy more RAM and a faster processor if I didn't care about my PC's performance?

Oh, and to top it all off, why am I using Trillian instead of AIM and ICQ etc installed? If you can work that out, then you wouldn't have I don't care about performance. Yet you posted that pathetic crap before this statement about me wanting bloatware and should be using AIM and ICQ. Honestly, how pathetic.

Going to check you're birthdate on your profile, hope that explains your post to me.... sheesh again, you're only 3 years younger than me. You should know better. Then again, I think most youngsters know that RAM and CPU improve PC performance.

Sounds to me like that means you don't care how much performance you lose by things like themes or anything else for that matter and would rather spend $$$ than simply turn options off. If you read those 2 statements in a row, as I did, it certainly does look that way. And that's pretty much the same thing as saying, "I don't care if ICQ is all bloated, I'll just buy a faster CPU instead of using something else" isn't it?

It was not meant to be a personal attack on you, Md, just a disagreement.

Obviously I care about Performance or else I wouldn't have posted that.

I mean sheesh, how much is RAM these days, dirt cheap, and CPUs, you can pick up a decent AMD for just over 100bucks. Hence the post. And yeah, you can turn of options, tweaking, that's what I do anyways, but it still doesn't substitute for updating your pc does it?

It certainly did sound like you were trying to have a personal attack at me.

And besides, the post said 'I', it didn't say 'YOU SHOULD', it wasn't a attack at the post before mine, it was what I, me, Md would do.

And further more, it wasn't a disagreement, it was a blatent attack at me, saying I should be using AIM or ICQ, or don't you remember typing that?

If that wasn't in there, then I could think of it as a disagreement, but no, you had to try and put me in a *class of AOL user by saying that, which is obviously intended to get some type of bite. Well, I've bitten.

*Class of AOL user refering to the general stereo typical stereotype and not as in all AOL users are morons. I added this because I am not trying to pay out AOL users at all, merely mentioning that there is a stereotype of AOL users out there in which you are clearly trying to put me into with that post of yours.

~

"I don't care if ICQ is all bloated, I'll just buy a faster CPU instead of using something else" isn't it?

No it's not. ICQ is bloatware, and I didn't mention that I wanted/liked bloatware. As I said, I WOULD update my CPU and RAM to increase my PC's Performance. Doesn't mean I want to run bloatware on my PC does it? Or isn't one allowed to want a pc that runs faster by updating their components? or is that automatically classified as they want to install bloatware?

well then I apologize, because I didn't mean it that way.

SDRAM is actually getting much more expensive...

Just remember when ppl post their opinions and what they would do, doesn't mean anything else than that. You may disagree with what they do, but it doesn't make them an AOL lover or a Bloatware lover, or a stupid idiot as the post you made connecting ME to wanting AIM and ICQ installed (re above posts) is trying to suggest (or at least to me it is).

Yes SDRAM is getting much more expensive, but compare it to what it used to be before the price drop, it's still cheap.
