[Iconpack] NecronomIcons, Halloween icon pack
NOTE: This pack will not work in Trillian Astra. Check back for updates after Astra is released.

It's a Halloween iconpack: NecronomIcons!

--> NecronomIcons_Installer.exe (1.8MB) <--

It's based around the native icons (as used in Tomethicons) I attempted to come up with icons that would evoke the native icons while being Halloween in nature of course.

There is also a silly story to go along with the iconpack. Feel free to submit your own stories based on the icons in the thread below.

If you use The Configurator, be sure to update it so it supports the STIXE Iconpack Extension Patch

The IconPack is configurable using The Configurator. (Be sure to update) I recommend 24px as the default icon sixe. (And for stixe skins, 16px for the Iconholder icons)

To truly enjoy the set, turn off your icon mode if you use pro. (view-> Icon View -> Off). This will display the icons in their 'default' size. (as chosen by the IconPack configuration if you have the STIXE Iconpack Extensions Patch installed)

(See the Uninstall information below for instructions on removing.)

For reference, here is the Tomethicons icon set:

And here are NecronomIcons

In use
Here is the iconpack in use in SETi Halloween III. (Hopefully to be released next weekend.)

The iconpack is designed specifically for dark skins for Halloween, but I tried to make it so they would work in really light skins (AKA Whistler) as well. This means that they'll look crappy in medium toned skins.

STIXE Iconpack Extensions Patch
StixeIconPatch_Installer.exe (included)

Included in the iconpack installer is a STIXE icon patch that allows stixe skins to use the iconpack extensions in NecronomIcons and TomethIcons.

You can run the installer again and uncheck 'apply patch' and it will disable the patch. It's coded to only work with Trillian 3.x, so hopefully things won't be broken in the Next Version. (It will allow you to disable the patch in later versions though.)

Tecnical stuff

For those interested, what it does is this:

The following files are copied to /stixe/elements
  1. IconpackEntities.dtd: Moves the icons from the controls in icons.xml to entities.
  2. Icons_extended.xml: the new version of icons.xml that supports the entities above
  3. main.unpatched.dtd: the distribution version of main.dtd from Trillian 3.1
  4. main.patched.dtd: calls Icons_extended.xml instead of Icons.xml

With this patch, the 'Pack Rat and The Configurator have been updated to look for the IconpackEntities.dtd in /stixe/elements and if it exists, add a line to trillian.dtd calling it. (So if you use TC, be sure to update it if you use this patch)

So, what the installer does is if it's install' then it copies the files above, then copies main.patched.dtd to main.dtd and installs the IconpackEntities.dtd.

If it's 'uninstall', it deletes the IconpackEntities.dtd and if the version of Trillian is 3.x it replaces the main.dtd with main.unpatched.dtd. (If it's a newer version of Trillian, then they've installed a later version of STIXE, so we leave the main.dtd alone, but still delete the iconpackentities so that TC / PR don't try to load it.)

After these are done, PackRat (included) is run in silent mode so that it adds the necessary changes to trillian.dtd

Uninstalling
Right now, it doesn't explicitly come with an uninstaller. (To be fixed as soon as I figure out how I want to handle it.) So here are the steps to take if you don't know how to restore your old settings:

To disable the STIXE Iconpack Extension, run StixeIconPatch_Installer.exe (see above, it's also in the iconpack's folder.). Uncheck the 'apply patch' option and it will disable the patch. (You don't have to do this step if you want to leave the patch for Tomethicons / other iconpacks to be able to use it)

To change your iconpack back to the default one, run PackRat.exe (also found in the Trillian/addons/PackRat folder) and select 'Trillian Cordillera Icons Set'. (For Win98/Me, you can run The Configurator's Trillian Advanced Settings to change this.)

To remove the files, just delete the /stixe/Icons/NecronomIcons folder.

And before anyone asks, no I don't think witches have green skin and are cannibals, no I don't think Yahoo is owned by satan... But I do believe in poisonous glowing green spiders that pretend to be harmless flowers

(We all know that witches would rather use another definition of eating someone and that Satan actually owns Microsoft... sheesh.)

It is with the 12px icons
When running stixe skins you need the iconholder icons to be 16px. I can modify the control, but if I remember correctly, the interfaces still expect the icons to be a certain size. There's really no way i can fix this without forcing the user to use a specific interface I modify. (Skins like MTP might be able to utilize it though.) I should probably put a note about that in the config. In SETi it works nicely though

Small update to add a couple of things to the config (a note about the iconholder icon size in STIXE and a link to the STIXE patch to make it easier to install/uninstall.

Also updated the MyIRCChats skull to give it a more 3D look to fit better with the crossbones

(history of the icon for comparison....)

Boooooo!

I'm working on updating the set for Astra, so there may or may not be an update for the 3.1 set. At this point, I don't see that it /needs/ updating, but I may tweak some things, so we'll see.
